When Evesham’s Pro Productions wanted to expand its rental offering to include top-of-the-range live event PA systems, Medialease was on hand to provide the asset finance facility to make it possible.
Pro Productions is a midlands-based AV equipment rental company that works with producers of music concerts and other live events.
Having established a successful boutique business – that also does its own events production – owner Will Bushell was keen to widen his company’s remit by adding full PA capabilities to its regular lighting, audio and stage rental offerings.
His master plan was to both sub contract out the new kit out to other events rental companies and also give his business a better spread of opportunities, allowing it to target corporate gigs and events as well as large live concerts and small festivals.
Keen to appeal to customers with high-end requirements, Bushel set his sights on a top-of-the-range audio console, and associated “rider friendly” PA system. However, with company books that banks deemed unfriendly, he turned to asset finance specialists to help take his company’s expansion.
“I chose Medialease because they are well known in the industry and I really liked their personal approach,” explains Bushell, who found Paul Robson via SSE Audio, the sales and rental firm supplying the kit. “I hate doing negotiations on the phone. With Medialease they will come and see you and even take you out for a drink!”
The chosen equipment was a complete L’Acoustics KARA PA array system, with Midas Pro2 console complete with rack, flight case and peripherals. The decision to plump for that particular technology was considered thoroughly, reveals Bushell.
“We generally deal with high-end equipment and Paul Robson knows the brands and what sells and rents well in this industry,” he says. “I don’t think he would provide finance for something that he thought wouldn’t do well.”
Bringing useful market knowledge to the table certainly helped make the deal happen, something that Bushell argues helps to set Medialease apart from its competitors.
“Paul has got a good knowledge of the kit and of the live events market,” he adds. “Other finance companies don’t seem to have that. When you are talking to someone from outside the industry or someone who doesn’t understand the kit it can be really frustrating and can impact on whether or not the leasing deal happens.”
With the new kit now firmly ensconced in the Pro Productions set-up, the company can now look to exploit it by bringing in new and varied revenues. Thanks, in part, to asset finance.
Robson himself adds: “On being introduced to Will Bushell by the guys at SSE Audio, I was firstly impressed by his sheer enthusiasm for everything he was doing. Whether it was a small show, a catwalk event or a full on production they were busy and the need to help their expansion into full show audio was obvious from the start. This is a company with drive and a good client base, looking to grow.”
